MINIATURE ICELANDIC SHEEP | Goats |
|
The Icelandic sheep is one of the world's oldest and purest sheep breeds. The breed has been around for 1100 years! One attractive feature of these sheep is that they can exhibit 17 colors and pattern combinations which include: white, grey, mouflon, badgerface and solid. They may also display various shades of these colors and patterns, ranging from white, cream, light grey, tan, caramel, light chocolate, silver, dark chocolate, dark grey, to jet black. There is also a spotting gene that adds even more combinations with over 90 recognized and named patterns of white markings. Icelandics produce a premium fleece. They are the source of the world famous LOPI yarn. Icelandic fleeces are open and low in lanolin. We bought the two lambs pictured below. Once grown they gave us a beautiful black and white son. He was born just before the running of the Kentucky Derby on May 1st, 2004. We named him "Smarty Jones". He has been neutered has a new home South of Tallahassee. |
